September 09: (From CW McCall: An American Legend/Ed Floden, August 31)

Back at the end of May, I received a message from Bill Fries. (You may have heard of him; he lives in Ouray, Colorado, and is sort of famous.) I had inquired about his health, as about three weeks before that Bill was unexpectedly hospitalized for the implantation of a heart pacemaker. (Don’t worry, folks, he’s doing fine.)

No news is usually good news, right? I have agreed to narrate Aaron Copland’s “Lincoln Portrait” with the Great Western Rocky Mountain Brass Band in Silverton late in August. That is, if my pacer is still ticking. You may take this as news, if you like. I’ll let you know the exact date. Maybe I’ll see you then? That would be nice.

— Bill

November 15: HAPPY BIRTHDAY 80TH! TO THE RUBBER DUCK, C.W. McCall, Mr. Bill Fries
September 02: R.I.P: Jerry Reed (A great country singer, great respect for his music from Smokey and the Bandit soundtracks.) I think if C.W. McCall's music had been used as much as Jerry Reed's was used, Convoy would have had far equal success in 1978.
